Day 15
Let's start by discussing Kmart, the once popular box store. We have a Kmart located less than 5 miles away, which makes it very convienent to pick up random things when needed. But today...
Today Jared, starfish, & I ran errands together because 3 are better than 2 but not so good as one. Jared drove, Ethan sat in the back being amused by dvds and food, and I ran into stores to get different things (groceries, drop off stuff, etc.) Everything was going pretty smoothly until Kmart. That's when I discovered there is a reason their profits are so low and stores are closing. It's really not that big of a deal, but just for fun let me share. I walked in to return some shades that didn't fit one of my windows. There were at least 6 employees in sight, but only one available to help customers at customer service. Then the lady who bought out all the Christmas clearance goods got to the register before me and slowly placed miles of tinsle on the counter. The Kmart employee rang up each item, examining it and having long conversations with the customer. After she rang up all the items, she realized she hadn't been bagging them and so then carefully placed each item into a bag, while also helping other employees sign out and get paychecks. Meanwhile starfish and husband are in the car and I'm becoming increasingly impatient. I know that is not a good quality and something I need to work on, so I tried to replace negative emotion with positive action and help the women get her bags into her cart (she was having a hard time with ALL the red bows and wrapping paper, etc.) The women then proceeds to tell me all about her family and the grand opening of her daughter's new skating rink. She asks me if I skate, when the last time I skated was, and if I was a college student (flattered of course). I really thought I was in the twilight zone.
So finally the Christmas extravaganza purchase was completed and it was my turn to shine. So I show the receipts and walk through the return process. Long story longer, somehow my credit card was only credited with half the amount. In the process of trying to correct the mistake, about 5 employees show up to hang out at the desk, put away coins, sign in, just love on each other. I really think I started to break out in hives. Then the cashier had to get someone else to help, and when this person came over she was even in less of a hurry to get it figured out. So about 4 score and 7 years later, my credit card was maybe given back the right amount and I did have one other question to ask them, but figured by this point Ethan had probably grown out of his cast and Jared was ready to leave me, so I quickly ran out of the store, shouting to potential Kmart customers, "Don't go into the marsh!" (That would be a quote from Monster Plantation at Six Flags over Georgia when the sheriff warns the people not to enter the marsh, which is full of crazy creatures and strange happenings)
Turns out starfish and husband were having a great time in the car, just ate some Wendys and enjoying some Handy Manny. I was exhausted.
So other than that the day was great! We cleaned the garage, ethan spent some time with Aunt Alice and family (Woodards), and then we had our big family errand day (ending on the Kmart note, which I still have somewhat of a rash from).
Starfish was so snuggly today. That is one thing I love about this experience is that I've gotten more hugs and snuggles from him than ever before. He likes to be held, which besides the whole weighing almost 40lbs thing, is such a sweet thing. The only difference between a real starfish and ethan starfish is that he is much harder than a starfish, kinda like a wooden version of the sea creature.
I got lots of giggles out of him today as I tickled him. I would count to three and then tickle underneath his arms, and he got to the point where he would lift up his arms just so I would get him! So great to be a mom. It really is the most fierce love I have ever felt and wouldn't trade it for the world.
So off to bed for another day. Jared and I have been having a lot of fun with all new joke material taken from the various dvds we watch. Our latest has been inside jokes from Clifford, and various new jingles from all the cartoons. We make up our own lyrics to the songs and have fun with them. Maybe I'll share some in the future.
Thankful for:
Ps- one of my favorite quotes is from Dr. King. Its appropriate that I share it:
"Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve... You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."

I see KMart has not changed one bit since the last time I was in there a long time ago. I think it's the employees at this one--they seem to be more interested in visiting than working.
