Day 17:
So I metioned yesterday that today would be a big day for starfish and mom, but plans changed. We were going to go on a wild fieldtrip to visit Lisa and her new baby Alexander, but at about midnight last night when I was getting directions online I saw that it estimated 4.5 hours to get there, and I was planning only around 3. I started to freak out a little, thinking about how starfish would do for that long in the car and we would have to come back the same day. Then I realized I was crazy and Jared told me he would keep Ethan sometime soon and I could go see baby Alexander sans starfish. So that is what today's post was supposed to be about.
Instead, Ethan and I took a short fieltrip (in comparison) to IKEA!!! The mothership. Behold, a store that could stretch across 4 football fields containing more particle board than one modern designer could hope for. Assembly required, but enjoy assembling whilst eating a delicious cinnamon bun from their bakery or 50 cent hotdog. Never trust a hotdog, though.
I really, really, really love Ikea. So does Ethan. Jared does not. I used an Ergo Carrier (a baby/kid carrier that can hold up to 40 lbs. - I know that because today I held up to 40 lbs on my hip). So I strapped Ethan in the ergo and I walked around like I was carrying a small infant, smiling at onlookers like this was a peice of cake. Meanwhile, my hips started to hurt, but I perservered down each aisle. Nothing would stop me. As one hip started to feel like it was going out on me, I kept my eye on the prize: the fabric section. If you've never been to Ikea, it really is an existential experience and one that lifts me to higher places of materalistic utopia, for a reasonable price. Anyways, I am paying for it now as my body is sore but starfish did so well. He can't help it that he weighs so much. He really did have a good time from what i can tell.
We did go by a few other stores and I continued to get him in and out of the car. He fell asleep on my shoulder in JoAnn's craft store, so I sat down to look at some magazines at which point he immediately woke up. man.
Then to finish off the day, we went to visit Jared at his work in Lawrenceville (i.e. PureFun!) and it was pure fun. We got to meet some of his coworkers and they got to meet the starfish. Starfish sniffed out some cookies when we got there and enjoyed eating them. Jared was surprised to see us and it was a fun fieldtrip.
By the time I got home tonight I was exhausted! I took at 6pm nap as I believe everyone should if possible. When I woke up we put Ethan to bed and I think Ikea wore him out too. Tonight he will dream of mass quantities of swedish furniture and kitchen wares to his delight, assembled of course. He seems to be sleeping better, too.
Thankful for:
all the jobs God has provided to Jared along the way of finishing his masters (including his job at PUREFUN! how could you not be thankful to work at a place called "PureFun!"?! for those of you who don't know what that is, it is a company that provides food/apparel/paper products to daycare centers and programs) and Ikea. and medicine to help a sore back and hips.

Yes! Starfish loves Ikea! :) I love it. I really want to see their fabric section - and spend longer in Ikea - perhaps with you who can navigate the craziness?
I'm so sorry you and Lisa haven't time together yet enjoying BOTH your boys! How cool is that!?! the shared experiences will continue for a life time! Can't wait to hear how the first visit will go! =)
