Day 3 as mom of starfish. Day full of ups and downs, although more ups than downs. Quick run down of the day:
Ups:
Ethan slept through the night and woke up at 7:30 to our delight (I know at one point in my life I would have said, "7:30?!? That's still the middle of the night!" but oh, how things have changed).
Ethan sat on Jared's lap and played with cars & ate applesauce, which made the time feel semi-normal. He even smiled for the camera (he has of late become quite the cheese... he must have gotten that from Jared).
We got his new wheelchair! Very cute. Its just like everything else made for babies: the rule is that anything is cute when its smaller than normal, and so even a wheelchair can be "cute." Hence the 7th grade slouch when I was taller than the boys and my envy for my best friend Misty who was smaller than everyone:)
Downs:
My back has started to hurt from picking Ethan up and just normal activity. I've had some issues with back problems and I realized that this might bring some of those issues up again. But no worries, I have medication and I'm not afraid to use it.
By 5:00pm, Jared and I both are kinda at a loss as to what else we can do with starfish boy. We have thought about some sort of zipline through the house, or my Aunt Missy proposed a skateboard type thing that he could roll around on. I just thought about it though: what if we did a skateboard and then I tied a rope onto it somehow, then I could "walk" Ethan! All the dogs in the neighborhood would be so jealous. Sorry Ethan if you ever read this in the future.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
Movie of the Day: Beauty and the Beast (note: animation has gotten so much better in the 21st century; I think Ethan knows the difference between old skool Disney and hip Pixar)
Quote of the Day: "It's only 11:30 am?"
Toy of the Day: Handy Manny tool set- I brought it out to him as he was watching Handy Manny... I thought that was so cool to be playing with the tools you are watching on television, but I think that requires some sort of metaphysical understanding of life. Oh well, even so I still had a cool experience. It's kinda like when you are listening to a song on the radio and then you look over at the person in the car next to you and they are singing along to the same song. That's cool. Or maybe it's nothing like that.
SO big day tomorrow- we go to the pediatric orthopedic at Emory Hospital. Pray that its a helpful visit and that Ethan is comfortable when he gets tied down in the backseat. Poor buddy.
THANKFUL for:
great food brought to us by Donna Rae Woods; phone calls from friends and family; a husband who serves his family and does it with joy; a son to push around in a wheelchair because now I will finally get handicapped parking.

wow. you've waiting a long time for that handicapped parking. enjoy it! ;)
I like the skateboard idea. Especially if he could scoot himself around with his hands. Think he could figure out how to parallel park if he needed to?
In other news, congratulations on handicapped parking. You are now the envy of EVERYONE who is in a mad dash to whatever location you're at.
What a sweet picture of Ethan and dad! He is very fortunate to have such "entertaining" parents and such an "inventive" Mom!
Strolling Ethan with the dog walks in the neighborhood, skateboarding starfish, seatbelt contraption, wagon with dog bed, "pew" seating arrangement! Sounds like great entertainment at some event in his future when you head down memory lane! Hope I am around to hear it told from his perspective! =)
